Quote of the Moment

"When you talk about the martial arts [videogame] genre, you have these stories about guys who can shoot fireballs. In my experience, never once have I seen a person throw a fireball."

-Martial artist and video game enthusiast Way Yin Yuen, on the realism of today's fighting games

From today's New York Times

  1. You might want to read about the 'Palm of Buddha' which is a martial arts technique in which energy can be projected to effect objects without touching them.

It may not be real, but there are 'eyewitness' accounts even from modern times (2004) of people seeing this technique in action.

I was at the iGames Expo (http://www.igamesexpo.com) and mentioned it to an account rep from Reptilian who happens to study martial arts. He claims his master has demonstrated the technique.

  2. It's comments like this bit about the "Palm of Buddha" that forever relegate video-gamers to the perpetual dork category. Such claims about martial arts are the equivalent of Western legends about knights slaying dragons and such. To truly pin any notion of reality to it is... well, juvenile.
